Church of England Primary School

How will my child be supported with accessing the curriculum and how does the school ensure that my child is included in activities outside of the classroom such as school trips?

Children have very different needs and learning styles.  The school always endeavours to give every child first quality teaching.  When a child with SEN has needs which are ‘additional to and different from’ their peers they may need to have support in different ways to help with a graduated response to needs.

This could be:

Interventions – individually, pairs or in small groups.

Using ICT to support recording

Apparatus to help with visualise ideas

Scribing by an adult

Sticker charts for behaviour

Visual Timetables

Equipment e.g  pencil grips.

Pre-learning reading or tasks

Lists for organising ideas

The interventions may take place within the classroom setting or outside of the classroom depending on the activity.  Interventions may be carried out by a teacher, specialist from an outside agency or a teaching assistant.

The school have a number of school trips throughout the year.  These can be in the school grounds, day trips or residential trips.  We will always include a child on a visit, and if they have specific needs we will discuss these with you before the trip takes place.  All trips are risk assessed and any child with Special Needs is taken into consideration.
