French

St Michael's uses the Language Angels scheme of work and resources to ensure that we offer a relevant, broad, vibrant and ambitious foreign languages curriculum that will inspire and excite our children using a variety of topics and themes.

The ultimate aim of our curriculum is that children will feel willing and able to continue studying languages beyond Key Stage 2.

The four key language learning skills; listening, speaking, reading and writing will be taught and all necessary grammar will be covered in an age-appropriate way across the primary phase.  This will enable children to use and apply their learning in a variety of contexts, laying down solid foundations for future learning.

The intent is that all pupils will develop a genuine interest and positive curiosity about French, finding it enjoyable and stimulating.

You can read more about our intent, implementation and desired impact below.

Please see below for our long term plan for 2021/22 which has been put in place following the impact of Covid.  Early language units are pitched to support children with little or limited language experience.

Each unit has a knowledge organiser which is used to support learning...see example below.

Please see below our MFL whole school policy:

The document below shows how the skills we teach are compliant with the National Curriculum and are progressive throughout Key Stage 2.
